Many people fail to understand that network marketing is a business that is about sharing and training. If you want to make big money in it, the key is in this line the greatest leader is the greatest server.
No one climbs to the top without the support of their downlines. Therefore, if you want to climb up, it is through people lifting you up, not by stepping on top of them like in the corporate ladder. That’s why it is very important for you to start by sharing your opportunity with the right heart.
Many people ‘run away’ from network marketers who are prospecting them because they are afraid of the recruiting process. The part about sitting people down, showing them to plan and the unending follow up calls designed to hunt down the prospect relentlessly… those old school sales and recruiting tactics are inefficient because of one thing – the prospect perceives you to be a sleazy sales person only out to get your hands into their pocket or their wallets.
This has to stop because if you do not share with the right intention to help your prospect, they will run away faster than you can say the word ‘sign up’.
So how do you connect with your prospect? How can you find the right ‘hot button’?
Firstly, you must learn to be a good listener. Being a good listener is not just about saying a lot of “yes” and “Um hmm…” to all the things they are saying about their lives. It is all about empathy. In essence, you really got to be a friend rather than a sales person. Business opportunities are just business transactions but the core of the business is about the heart. Do not place your business deals before your prospects’ or downlines’ welfare.
Next, if you want to share properly, do not try and go for the quick kill in order to make the sale. Network marketing is not about a hit and run, it is about building a long term business and it is not uncommon to find people getting their best downlines one or two years after prospecting them and following up with them.
Lastly, if you want to help people, you must not build your network marketing business as though it is your only source of income. The root of greed begins with desperation so take your time with your business. If you rely on it as your sole source of income, all your prospects will look like dollar signs to you.
Network marketing is a brutal, unforgiving business if you do not do your due diligence. In essence, choosing the right network marketing company is like choosing the right boyfriend or girlfriend – inevitably, bad choices will affect your finances and career in ways that you will never anticipate when you ‘fall in love’ for the first time (yes, it applies to companies you fall in love with as well!)
How does one differentiate between a legitimate network marketing company compared to a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’? Most of the time, there are many gray areas and certain companies stand on that thin line where it sounds legal but is actually unethical!
Here are a few ways to differentiate between a good opportunity and one that you must avoid like a plague:
Always do a thorough background check on the opportunity.
Do they have a solid management team?
Do the people in the company jump from one business to another?
You must be very careful with this because if they uproot and move to another company or project, you will lose thousands of downlines overnight!
Are the products legitimate?
A litmus test of a solid product is one that sells very, very well even at its retail price. Most companies will try and force an unrealistic mark up on their products in order to pay out down to many levels in the organization, but in actual fact, the product is only consumed by the people who are doing the business and are useless competitively speaking when sold outside the network.
Would you get more of the product when the company shuts down or would you try and auction them off on eBay at a very, very low price? Never fall for the trap thinking that the product is very good just because you are doing the business.
Do they require you to purchase a lot of inventory?
Do they require your downlines to get lots of stock before anyone can earn money? Beware of those hit-and-run companies because they will disappear when the market hits saturation.
Is your upline a network marketing junkie who treats the company as a fad rather than a long term business?
It is better to join a team that is here to stay compared to one that moves from fad to fad. You will never know when your current upline might leave and will even ‘pinch’ your downlines to his or her new opportunity so beware who you ally yourself with.
These are all important areas to consider because you will be spending a lot of time and money with the company. So make sure you do your due diligence!
When I say this guy is my kind of guy, whoaaa, do I mean it!
Are you a confident person? If you are not confident, it will be very hard for you to succeed in network marketing because this business is all about leadership and motivation. How can you lead and motivate your downlines if your confidence is shaky and your posture is weak?
Sometimes, it is very sad to find many network marketers struggling to sponsor their very first downline. This is normal, but you must not dwell in this stage for too long because it is detrimental to your confidence. You see, fear causes inaction, and inaction causes a lack of results and the longer your lack of results show itself, the more fear it creates because people in network marketing are getting ahead of you and you are still in the first stage!
Therefore, the first step towards becoming more confident is to TAKE ACTION. By taking action you will automatically gain confidence. They say that a skydiver’s greatest fear is not the jump itself but rather the wait before the jump. As they stare at the raging sky, their fear intensifies until the moment they step off the plane! Network marketing is just like that. You have to make that first phone call or show your first plan (or run your first opportunity talk). Whatever it is, just get the job done.
The next part about building your confidence is NOT to spend too much time reading network marketing books. A lot of your success depends on your knowledge in network marketing… yes it is undoubtedly very important. But too much analysis will lead to paralysis. Having too much knowledge without applying it is a surefire way to network marketing failure. The ‘graves’ of many unsuccessful distributors are filled with people with all the knowledge about network marketing… except how to take action and make money with that knowledge.
Another way to build your confidence is to focus on building your network personally.
Sometimes, a distributor can spend so much time with their ONE golden downline, that they become too dependent on that one line. Very soon, you will see your downline moving up even to the point of surpassing you. When your downline starts making more money than you, your own upline might wind up spending more time with him or her and that would greatly shake your confidence! So don’t rest, always go out there and sponsor more people personally.
Lastly, when it comes to sponsoring, you can consider generating leads on the Internet. You face less rejection, if any, and you can still share your opportunity. The key to using the internet is learning and having a system that works. In network marketing, there is no way around meeting people, but the internet helps to make that process so much easier and way more fun!
